Research is about more than conducting experiments in a lab. In the Department of Human and Molecular Genetics, we are passionate about making discoveries with a global impact.

In collaboration with partners in the School of Medicine and across Virginia Commonwealth University, we are leveraging current knowledge to better understand genes that play roles in pathogenesis; developing new strategies to diagnose and treat diseases; and translating discoveries into clinical research with the potential for practical application in medicine. Research in our department spans the spectrum of gene discovery, functional genomics, diagnostics and therapeutics.

As members of the broader VCU research community, students, faculty and trainees in the department have access to state-of-the-art facilities across the MCV Campus.
